Community Advocates In-Person Gathering

Location: ASHHO Cultural Community Center, Tumwater, WAWho: Advocates who are providing Sexual Assault Services BY and FOR culturally specific communities in Washington State.
What: Join us for the kick-off to bi-monthly gatherings of advocates working with sexual assault survivors and loved ones in culturally specific communities in Washington State.
This gathering is designed to build a network of leaders and weavers working at the intersections of social change. Hear updates and share your successes and challenges with colleagues and Statewide Representative for Culturally Specific Sexual Assault Programs in Washington State. Hosted by The Ripple Project.
After welcoming in all the familiar and new faces in-person and virtual attendance, we will take time to honor the sacred work you do in supporting victims/survivors. We’ll gather over a delicious meal from Chef Khurshida. After lunch, we’ll hear a brief introduction to a new thematic topic, followed with an opportunity for a roundtable discussion and sharing. There will be time to form connection (or to reconnect) with colleagues, exchange business cards (or Blinq) and to mingle.
Registration :
FREE to up to 2 registrants from programs recieving OCVA funding to provide Culturally SpecIfic Sexual Assault Programs. Lunch and refreshments provided.

$25 for lunch buffet included for General Admission.
Training Certification:
Participation in the Community Advocates activities (in-person or virtual) shall receive training certification for equivalent hours of continuing education as required by Washington State Culturally Specific and Native American Sexual Assault Services Standards.

The Heart of Advocacy: Core 30-hour Advocate Training

Join us for an empowering 4 1/2-day training conference dedicated to advocacy for the Global Majority, LGBTQ+ communities, and individuals experiencing resource barriers. This exceptional opportunity is tailored for advocates who assist survivors of sexual assault, emphasizing the understanding of compounded and intergenerational trauma through an anti-oppression perspective.
Drawing from the teachings of trauma and wellness experts and seasoned advocates with extensive experience in sexual assault healing and prevention services in Washington State, participants can expect to gain valuable knowledge and practical tools to enhance their advocacy efforts. This conference aims to foster a sense of community and empowerment within the social justice movement, inspiring advocates to create meaningful change in the lives of survivors.
The program will incorporate diverse learning methods, including lectures, videos, guest speakers, somatic practices, and Theater of the Oppressed techniques, ensuring an engaging and transformative experience. Throughout the training, attendees will participate in activities designed to enhance their advocacy skills, such as active listening, crisis response techniques, grounding exercises, and wellness practices.

FREE Training & Meals for programs receiving OCVA funding to provide Culturally Specific Sexual Assault Services. Participants will enjoy a light breakfast and lunch buffet daily at the conference. This event runs 4.5 days from Monday, November 4th through Friday, November 8th.

This program is crafted to align with core Advocate Training requirements as outlined in the Culturally Specific Communities Service Standards of Washington State Sexual Assault Services. Participants shall receive training certification for equivalent hours of core (or continuing education) as required by Washington State Culturally Specific Sexual Assault Services Standards.
The primary intended audience are those working in Culturally specific Sexual Assault Advocacy and Prevention programs to ensure staff and volunteers have access to culturally relevant training. Registration opens to the public September 1st.
